Mark Andrew McCullough passed unexpectedly on Oct. 27, 2021, at the age of 60 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Mark was born in Bethesda, Maryland, on Sept. 13, 1961, at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center. As a child, he became proficient in climbing and his parents quickly learned the best place to look for him was up. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1980, and enlisted in the United States Navy. Mark’s natural leadership and drive led him to become a respected petty officer 1st Class, specializing as a fire control technician.

While serving in the U.S. Navy, Mark thrived on travel and adventure. One of his favorite Naval experiences was on the USS Gurnard, when the submarine surfaced at the North Pole and he fed polar bears pancakes. His fond love of the ocean and fellow service members propelled countless bedtime stories for his children.

Following the Navy, he continued his education at Lewis and Clark State College, where he met and married Faye Frost in 1987. Together they had two children, Steven McCullough and Briana Nichols. In 1996 they moved to Montana and enjoyed skiing, fishing, whitewater canoeing and picking huckleberries as a family. Although they divorced in 2008, Mark and Faye remained steadfast to their children, and future grandchildren.

Mark later moved to Lakewood, Colorado, where he met Catherine Hudak. They married in 2020, and truly enjoyed traveling together. Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, became a favorite camping spot, and they recently celebrated Mark’s 60th birthday in Marathon Key, Florida. Mark and Catherine shared a love for unique dining, evening walks, and beach cruising with their dog, Cora Sue.

To many, Mark was known as an adventurer, protector and teacher. He was also a beloved father, bonus uncle, and loyal friend. Mark had a passion for history, a mind filled with endless knowledge, and a heart overflowing with love for his children and grandchildren. Deeply missed by all, Mark’s life and legacy will be forever cherished.

Mark is survived by his parents, Darlene and David; numerous siblings; wife, Catherine; previous wife, Faye; their children, Steven and wife Annie, and Briana and husband Craig; and his grandchildren, Hadley, Lochlan and Coen.

Mark’s celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
