A 45-year-old Kalispell man was killed Monday afternoon after he was struck while attempting to secure a load on a trailer.

According to a Montana Highway Patrol report, the accident happened on Dyer Road in Creston near the intersection with Montana 35.

The report indicates that the victim was driving a Dodge pickup with a trailer, and that he had pulled to the side of the road and stepped out of the vehicle to strap down a load.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Ryan Daub, crews were nearby doing grading work on the gravel road. A 56-year-old man from Columbia Falls driving a Caterpillar semi truck loaded with gravel was backing down Dyer Road when the semi contacted the rim of the Dodge truck.

The semi truck driver stopped upon contact and found the victim on the ground.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.
