Helena Theatre presents unique Native American performance
The Helena Avenue Theatre in Helena present Winter Lodge Rendezvous, a live show featuring Native American performers, at 7 p.m. Dec. 3.
For thousands of years members of the Montana tribal nations would gather in their lodges during the winter months to share ceremonies, songs and stories. The Montana Playwrights Network (MPN), in collaboration with Native American performance artists, hosts a unique event that features songs and stories that entertain and educate at the same time with Winter Lodge Rendezvous.
Winter Lodge Rendezvous features outstanding Native American performers, Christian Takes Gun Parrish, “Supaman,” a Native dancer and hip-hop artist; Jack Gladstone, “Montana’s Troubadour”; co-hosts, Mike Jetty and Shane Doyle, Northern Plains singers and humorists; and classic Western fiddler, Sapphire Ferguson Jetty.
In addition to the show, MPN is joined by the Montana Arts Council in co-hosting a community reception for attendees and performing artists immediately following the performance. The reception will provide refreshments, including Indian Fry Bread Tacos and other Native-inspired fare.
Tickets are available online at www.montanaplaywrights.org, or call 406-235-0353 for reservations and more information.
The Helena Avenue Theatre is located at 1319 Helena Ave., in Helena.
The event is supported in part by grants from the Greater Montana Foundation, and the Helena Community Foundation’s William B. Pratt Endowment Fund.
