Richard ‘Dick’ C. Sherman, 88

| November 28, 2021 12:00 AM

Richard was born on Jan. 14, 1933, in Minot, North Dakota, to Waldo and Dorothy Sherman. He passed away peacefully at home in Bigfork on Oct. 27, 2021. He moved to Shelby with his family sophomore year in high school and worked for his dad at Sherman Motors. In Shelby he met the love of his life and his future wife, Beverly Toole.

Richard attended the University of Montana during which he married Beverly. He was drafted into the military and was temporarily stationed in Texas. After his service, the family moved to Shelby and then Great Falls where Dick became an insurance adjuster and eventually state manager for Hartford Insurance. Together he and Beverly also opened an art gallery.

Beverly had family ties in Bigfork and they built a cabin on Echo Lake, where they spent most of their spare time enjoying water sports and family. They loved the Flathead Valley so much they decided to relocate and made several upgrades to their cabin, turning it into a warm and welcoming home.

Together they started Sun Rental and Party Time. When they decided to retire, they sold their ownership of the businesses to their son, Mark and daughter, Cindy. They had built a cabin on Swan River and retirement gave them the time to relax and enjoy nature at their river getaway.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly, on Nov. 1, 2020.

He is survived by his son, Mark Sherman, daughter, Cindy (Dan) Majerus, and son Jon (Dixie) Sherman. He had five grandchildren, Shane Sherman, Stephanie (Elijah) Arnlund, Whitney (Adam) Warren, Justin (Scarlett) Sherman and Christina (Eugene) Hollenbeck. He had eight great-grandchildren.

Dick loved being in nature at the cabin in the Swan with his wife Beverly. He had a way with people, there were no strangers in his life, just new friends. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by many.
