Bjarne Thorson Froystad, 92

| October 29, 2021 12:00 AM

Bjarne passed away Oct. 27, 2021, at the Montana Veterans Home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Breim, Norway, on the family farm with his seven siblings.

Bjarne started his lifetime adventure at the age of 20 when he boarded a ship to the United States along with his older brother Asbjorn. Their destination was Plentywood, Montana, to work on their uncle’s farm. Later he was drafted in the Army and served in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Kalispell to work for the U.S Forest Service. In 1956 he began his long career with Anaconda Aluminum Company.

In 1954 he met his bride Gerd, also from Norway. Together they’ve created 66 years of memories.

Bjarne enjoyed skiing, fishing, dancing, hunting and winters in Arizona. He spent his best times at Ashley Lake with his family and many lifelong friends. He and Gerd made multiple trips back to Norway throughout the years. Bjarne’s fun-loving nature was enjoyed by all who knew him. He will certainly be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gerd; and his children, Linda (Mark) Schreibeis, Norman (Kathy) Froystad, and Kathy (Fred) Frank; grandsons, Taylor Frank (Maggie), Nathan Frank, Erik Froystad and Evan Froystad; great-granddaughter, Eleanor (Norie) Frank; two sisters, Anna and Thorbjorg; and many nieces and nephews who have all been a big part of Bjarne’s life.

There will be a graveside service at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m.

The family wants to thank the staff at the Montana Vets home for the exceptional care that Bjarne received.

Darlington Cremation and Burial Service is assisting the family.
