Logan Health has been recognized as a leading heart-care hospital in Montana.

The Kalispell-based hospital system received eight American Heart Association Achievement Awards for its efforts to improve care for cardiovascular patients — the most awards among all Montana hospital systems.

Among the awards, Logan Health earned three “gold plus” honors for efforts to ensure cardiovascular patients receive “efficient and coordinated care,” leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer returns to the hospital, according to a press release announcing the awards.

Logan Health applied for the awards by demonstrating how the hospital has committed to improving care. Results were published in U.S. News and World Report.

“Logan Health is honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for our dedication to helping our patients have the best possible chance of survival and recovery after cardiovascular events,” said Dr. Douglas Nelson, Chief Medical Officer at Logan Health. “The Mission: Lifeline and Get with the Guidelines programs help put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis to improve outcomes for cardiovascular patients.”

According to the press release, nearly half of all adults in the U.S. have experienced some form of cardiovascular disease – including heart attack, stroke and heart failure. For patients with conditions that are severe enough to be transported or admitted to a hospital, time is critical.

Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula earned five achievement awards, while Bozeman Deaconess earned four.
