Movie Night at the Museum features ‘Catch 22’
The Northwest Montana History Museum’s next Movie Night at the Museum is Tuesday, Sept. 28, with the screening of the 1970 classic black comedy “Catch-22.” The show begins at 7 p.m.
Captain John Yossarian (Alan Arkin) would have to be crazy to fly an unthinkable 80 missions under the command of Colonel Cathcart and, if he were crazy, he would be unfit to fly. But if Yossarian understandably refused, it would indicate that he was sane, meaning that he would be fit to fly after all — a classic “Catch-22.”
In its time, “Catch-22” was neither a commercial, nor critical success. That must have come as a surprise to previous Tony and Academy Award-winning director Mike Nichols. It is even more difficult to fathom after a look at the stellar cast, one of the biggest ensembles in film history. In alphabetical order, the cast included Alan Arkin, Bob Balaban, Art Garfunkel, Charles Grodin, Bob Newhart, Anthony Perkins, Paula Prentiss, Martin Sheen, Jon Voight and Orson Welles.
There is no charge for the film. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of showing the films. The popcorn is also free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs, or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
If you have a cough, a fever, or are feeling under the weather, you are asked not to attend, not only for your own health, but for the well-being of museum staff and others.
