Kersten, Knutson third at Western Conference tennis

Rain washed out some of the later rounds of tennis at the Western AA Conference Invite at FVCC Saturday, but a few winners were crowned before the weather came.

Alexis Kersten of Flathead and Kyler Knutson of Glacier each placed third in their respective singles brackets, Kersten in girls #1 and Knutson in boys #2.

Kersten defeated Big Sky’s Brooke Williams, 7-6(2), 6-2. Knutson bested Flathead’s Cody Ramer, 6-2, 6-4.

Glacier doubles pair Alex Galloway and Josh Mortenson were rained out of the #1 final against teammates Ethan Woods and Trey Engellant, but led 4-2 before it ended prematurely. Another Glacier pair, Carl Bitney and Ethan Dykstra were set to take on Sentinel’s AJ and Jesse McCormick in the #3 semifinal but suffered the same fate.

Naomi Jutzi of Glacier made it to the third-place match in #2 singles but fell to Helena’s Keaton Normandy.
