Hockaday exhibit celebrates area high school students

The Hockaday Museum of Art’s exhibition New Artists 2022 highlights artwork by local high school students. The popular annual exhibit, now in its 23rd year, opens May 3, with a free public reception for artists, their families and the public May 5 from 5 to 7 pm.

New Artists 2022 features 2-D and 3-D works of a variety of media by talented ninth and 12th grade artists selected by art teachers from Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Whitefish and surrounding areas. These featured works represent the best of the best from their respective schools. The Curators Choice Awards for 2-D and 3-D will be announced at the May 5 reception. Visitors can also vote for the People’s Choice Award through Saturday, May 7, which will be announced Tuesday, May 10. Winners receive special cash prizes. The exhibition remains on display through May 28.

Current gallery hours are Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for general admission, and $4 for seniors or students. Youth under 18 are free.
