C-Falls’ Moultray throws no-hitter at tourney

FRENCHTOWN — Maddie Moultray threw a six-inning no-hitter Saturday, continuing Columbia Falls strong start to the season with a 10-0 win over Corvallis at the Frenchtown Invitational.

The no-hitter followed the Wildkats’ 9-5 loss to Class B power Florence earlier in the day.

In other games at the Frenchtown tournament: Polson lost to Laurel, 5-2; Ronan beat Stevensville 18-8 and Dillon 10-2; and Libby beat Butte Central 18-3 and Stevensville 10-7.

C-Falls 10, Corvallis 0

Moultray allowed just two walks and had 11 strikeouts for the Wildkats (12-2). Two Blue Devils got as far as second base and one of them was out trying to steal third.

Errors and wild pitches smarked a four-run third inning for Columbia Falls, while Aletheia Fisher’s two-run double highlight another four-run outburst in the fourth that put her team up 9-0.

A four-run fourth inning pushed the Falcons out to a 7-2 lead, and the Wildkats couldn’t catch up in this five-inning contest.

Rylee Yeoman doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for Florence, which had 12 hits against three Columbia Falls pitchers.

Aspen Dawson had an RBI double to highlight the Wildkats’ three-run fifth inning, and she had an RBI single in the second as well.

Josie Benson’s two-run home run in the fifth inning was big for Laurel, which led just 3-2 after Polson got back-to-back doubles by Katelyne Druyvestein and McKenna Hansen in the top of the inning.

Laurel got to Druyvestein, Polson’s ace, for three runs and Benson hit her homer off Turquoise Pierre.
