Live painting event happening Saturday in downtown Kalispell

The Kalispell Downtown Association and KALICO Art Center are co-hosting a new event taking place in downtown Kalispell, Kalispell’s Downtown Art Challenge: Clarence Rundell Historical Renditions is a live event that will take place at a variety of local businesses in downtown Kalispell on Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. During this time 10 painters — Alyssa Shaw, Marshall Noice, Gen DeLorme, Kerry Broughton, Madison Apple, Kenneth Yarus, Tanya Lambrecht, Susan Guthrie, Haakon Ensign and Tessa Heck — will be painting live, each referencing a different Clarence Rundell mural that Rundell painted in 1936 in what is now Rocky Mountain Outfitter on Main Street in Kalispell. Painting locations include Sweet Peaks, Alchemy, Wheat Montana, Sunrift, MontaVino, Bias Brewery, Brannigan’s and Nature Baby.

After the live event, the paintings will be hung up and on view from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 in the following downtown businesses: Ceres Bakery, Glacier Bank, Rocky Mountain Outfitter, Kalispell Grand Hotel, The Toggery, Sage and Cedar, Sweet Peaks, Flowers by Hansen, and Montavino Winery. During this time all of the paintings will be up for auction online at https://app.galabid.com/kdachallenge/items

A closing reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at Montana Modern Fine Art to celebrate with the artists and complete the auction for the paintings both live and online. The auction will close at 7:30 p.m. sharp and winners will be announced before the end of the evening.
