Winners announced in Huck Festival baking contest

The creations ranged from simple muffins and tarts to elaborate cakes and pie, but they all had one thing in common – huckleberries. Each entry for the annual Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival baking contest had to contain that favorite purple fruit, but the similarities ended there. Judges Barb Gallagher, Allen Branine and Frank Kolendich announced the winners of the Aug. 13 festival baking contest.

Adult division

• First place: Shelly Kaser — Sour Cream Huckleberry Pie

• Second place: Christy Ehrman — Huckleberry Delight

• Third place: Jennifer Whitney — Lemon Cheesecake

Children’s division (age 12 and under):

• First place: Journey Young and Sisters — Cheesecake

• Second place: Wyatt (No last name provided) — Macaroons

• Third place: Arya Peterson — Muffins

Held for more than 40 years at the Swan Lake Day Park, the Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival is the annual fundraiser for the Swan Lake Chamber and Community Club. Next year’s Festival will take place Aug. 12. Funds raised support the Swan Lake Clubhouse and other community projects.
