Law roundup: Uncooperative passenger prompts detour
A transit bus made an unexpected stop at the Kalispell Police Department headquarters after a passenger refused to exit the vehicle. Asked to assist, officers helped escort the man from the bus without incident.
The victim of an alleged hit-and-run contacted officers for help in securing footage of the collision. She told police that cameras at a local business captured the incident, but employees were refusing to turn the evidence over to her.
Officers headed to the scene of a vehicle that reportedly ended up in a ditch. The person who phoned in the accident was worried the wreck was causing a hazard as the vehicle was blocking traffic. But before authorities arrived several good samaritans had helped put the car back on the road.
Police got to the bottom of another would-be hit-and-run with the help of a witness. A woman told officers that a man struck her vehicle while pulling out of a spot in a narrow parking lot, leaving minor damage to the rear bumper and passenger side quarter panel. A witness to the accident corroborated the tale. When officers met up with the man, he said he failed to remember the collision. When they checked his vehicle, though, they found fresh damage on the driver’s side of the rear bumper.

Authorities responded to a report of a woman driving on a local walking trail. Arriving officers were unable to locate the vehicle, but found tracks on the trail. They concluded the woman likely left the trail and went back onto city streets.
Officers moved along a couple who were reported for camping out in the stalls of a local business. When police met up with the campers, they came across several bicycles, one of which was reported stolen out of Provo, Utah. Authorities picked up the pair and turned information about the stolen bike over to detectives.
Store security asked for help in moving a man along. The individual had left the business after being asked to exit, but was still hanging out by the front door. Officers later found out the man was having car trouble and left prior to their arrival.
A caller asked police to shut down a motorist doing doughnuts in a pickup truck.
Police returned a misplaced wallet to its owner after a local auto dealership turned it in to authorities.
A woman asked for help with surrendering an elderly pet dog on behalf of her brother. Disabled and going through an eviction, her brother could no longer care for the animal. Officers told her that if the county animal shelter agreed to take the dog in, they would pick the pet up and drop it off.
