Vikings win, Northwest A boys teams falter in Frenchtown

FRENCHTOWN — The Northwest A boys’ basketball teams didn’t have a good Friday at the Frenchtown Tip-Off Tournament, dropping all six of their matchups with Southwest A opponents.

In fact Class B Bigfork, which will move up and into the Northwest A next school year, provided the lone win: A 49-13 walkover against Stevensville.

Whitefish lost a heart-breaker, falling 75-72 in double overtime to Livingston despite 52 combined points from Mason Genovese and Jade Sears.

The tournament continues Saturday.

Eli Thorness scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack for Bigfork, which ran out to a 22-0 lead over the Yellowjackerts and didn’t look back.

Mason Genovese scored 29 points and Jade Sears poured in 23 for Whitefish, but the Bulldogs came up just short in overtime.

Mason Kelch added 11 points for Whitefish.

Calvin Caplis led four Rangers in double figures with 21 points.

Five players in double figures led the Corvallis Blue Devils, who led 35-28 at halftime.

Columbia Falls’ Jace Hill tied the Blue Devils’ Ryan Hutchison for game scoring honors, with 14 points.
