James Robert Smith, 68

James Robert Smith passed away of natural causes Nov. 15, 2022 in Bremerton, Washington.

James was born Nov. 3, 1954 in Havre to Leon and Evelyn Smith. He grew up in Hingham, Montana and graduated from Hingham High School in 1973.

James enlisted in the US Navy in 1974. He was stationed aboard the USS Bristol County LST-1198. While in the Navy, James received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Award (2 awards), Expert .45 CaL: Pistol, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and M-14 Marksman. He was discharged from the Navy April, 1983 as an Engineman 1st Class, EN 1, E-6.

After leaving the Navy, James worked at the Bremerton Naval Repair facility repairing and rebuilding torpedoes until he retired. James was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 20 years ago. His sister Lynn and husband John were caretakers for James. James favorite hobbies were woodworking and fishing.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Evelyn and his sister Wanda Mills.

He is survived by his daughter, Tasha (Skylar) Wood of Bremerton; brother Larry (Wanita) Smith of Kalispell; sisters Lynn (John) Paasch and Linda Smith of Bremerton and Pam (David) Wilson of Havre; and many numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in Jame’s name can be made to the North Star School Foundation in Hingham or the Parkinson Foundation.
