Karen Hannah Fox, 73

| December 18, 2022 12:00 AM

Karen Hannah Fox, from Columbia Falls, and formerly Billings passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2022 after a long illness. She was surrounded at home by her loving family and animals. Karen was born on June 29, 1949 and passed away on Dec. 13, 2023 at 73 years old.

Karen is survived by her beloved 96-year old mother, Grace Satterthwait of Billings; her three daughters, Fawn (Scott Pereira) Fox of Boston, Tammy (Joe) Hauser and Kris Scott both of Columbia Falls; her two granddaughters who she adored beyond measure – Tayler Johnson and Reese Scott – also of Columbia Falls; her two sisters of Billings, Linda Rookhuizen and Lonnie Krantz; and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. She is preceded in death by her husband Terry Fox, her grandmother Clara “Tubby” Howard and her father Clayton “Sonny” Satterthwait.

Karen was known for her gentle soul and giving heart. Anyone that met her immediately loved her. Her true passion was spending time with her granddaughters, dogs and horses. Some of her happiest moments were spent riding her horses near her house or the surrounding areas of the Flathead Valley with her granddaughter, Reese and attending all of Reese’s barrel racing competitions. She also enjoyed long walks and meaningful discussions about life, art and spirituality with her other granddaughter Tayler.

Prior to retiring last year, Karen owned her own hair salon in Columbia Falls where many of her clients became her friends. Before that she worked for Burlington Northern railroad as a manual track laborer (aka gandy dancer) – one of few women to do so in that day and age. She was a hot ticket!

Karen’s family would like to thank all of those in the medical field who helped her through this cancer journey – but especially Dr. Ryan Roop, Dr. Justin Linam and their respective teams. You always treated her with such caring and kindness. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice in Karen’s honor. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
