Milner three-peat; Glacier boys second at state swim

GREAT FALLS — Flathead’s Lily Milner capped off her high school swimming career with two wins at the All-Class State swim meet Saturday.

Milner won titles in the 100 backstroke (55.13 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (50.30) which makes her a three-time champion in both events. Milner will continue her swimming career at the University of Utah.

The Glacier boys swim team took home some hardware as well, placing second in the team race thanks to strong performances by the relay teams, 30 points behind winner Missoula Sentinel, who scored 207 points.

The Pack won the 220 free relay (Isaac Keim, Derek Smith, Jakob Sonderegger, and Xander Stout), the 200 medley relay of Keim, Stout, Sonderegger, and Joseph Tierney finished finished second and the 400 freestyle relay of Smith, Drew Bouda, Sonderegger, and Tierney finished fourth.

Individually, Smith placed second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free. Smith’s teammate Keim got a second in the 50 free and third in the 100 back. In the 500 free, Bouda was third, and Stout came in fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Flathead senior Ayden Strobbe-Berry swam to fifth in the 50 free.

For the Glacier girls, Madeleine McGoughy was six in the 500 free and Olivia Gibbons came in fourth in the 50 free.

Great Falls won and C.M. Russell was runner up for the AA girls title. Glacier was fourth with 105 points.

In Class AB, the Whitefish girls placed second behind Billings Central, who swept the boys and girls titles. The Columbia Falls girls were fifth. Whitefish’s boys were also second and Columbia Falls boys were third.

Whitefish’s Sydney Macintyre was second in the 200 free and fourth in the 200 individual medley, an event that her teammate Ada Qunell won.

Qunell was a double winner, also earning a title in the 500 free.

Another Bulldog, Jack McDaniel, took second in the 100 fly, and Logan Botner swam to a second in the 100 free and won the 100 back.
