Richard 'Rick' A. Hawk, 69

| February 18, 2022 12:00 AM

Rick Hawk passed away from a snowmobile accident on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022.

Rick was born in Kalispell on March 30, 1952, to Dick and Duane Hawk. His dad worked for the railroad, therefore the family lived in several small railroad towns.

He wrestled while attending Flathead High School and wrestled in the AAU National Championship while attending Flathead Valley Community College. He was an active member of Flathead Search and Rescue.

Rick married Sandra Dootson in January 1975, and they spent their first seven months together in North Pole, Alaska. Rick worked as a police officer, fireman and medic for the city of North Pole and put together their first ambulance. Upon returning to Kalispell, Rick went to work for the Flathead County Sheriff's Office. After 14 years with the sheriff’s office, Rick retired and became a private investigator, retiring in 2017. To stay active, he became a process server and bailiff.

Rick was an avid outdoorsman; he loved spending his time hunting, trapping, gathering wood for the winter months or just exploring a mountain road. His latest passion was flint knapping arrowheads.

Rick is survived by his wife Sandie, sons Justin and Michael, wife Lori, his grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimmie, Nicholas, Kenzie, Paige and Kaleb, and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Kennedy, and his two brothers, Bruce, wife Toni and William George, wife Katina.

We miss him so very much, but Rick died doing something he loved.

A celebration of life is being planned for some time in August.
