WTC holds auditions for ‘Bauer’
The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for its final Black Curtain theater production of the 2021-2022 season. Auditions for “Bauer” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Arrive early to fill out an audition application, waiver form, and review the script. Enter at the north side of the building.
“Bauer” is the true story of forgotten abstract artist Rudolf Bauer, peer to Picasso, Chagall and Kandinsky, and beacon to Pollock and Rothko. The year is 1953 and Bauer hasn’t painted in 13 years, ever since he unwittingly signed a contract that gave ownership of all his past and future work to the Guggenheim Foundation. Bauer was poised to be the focal artist of the new Guggenheim Museum in New York City, however, the Guggenheim opened without a single Bauer on display. What happened to his paintings? What caused Bauer to set down his brushes and never paint again?
A story of love and defiance, “Bauer” is a shocking and moving untold story of powerful art and passion, and just as powerful downfall.
The cast is composed of two women and one man, ages 40s and older. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided.
Gil Jordan is the director of this production. As a Black Curtain show, the actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be approximately nine rehearsals and one technical rehearsal on March 11. There are two performances on March 12 and 13.
