Flathead grapplers sweep team titles in Boise
BOISE, Idaho — Flathead’s girls and boys wrestling teams swept the team titles Saturday at the Rollie Lane Invitational.
“Just unbelievable,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “We are just so proud of this team. They just keep stepping up and improving each and every weekend. This is arguably one of the toughest tournaments in the Western United States and they just found ways to win the tough matches.”
Braves Fin Nadeau (145), Chase Youso (182), and Noah Poe-Hatten (170) were all winners Saturday, with Anders Thompson third at 160 and Asher Kemppainen (132) among several Flathead wrestlers who placed fifth. Gabe Lake (152) battled to a second-place finish.
“The quarterfinals were just loaded with undefeated records and state champions and the Brave Brawlers went toe to toe with the best,” Thompson said. “Super fun watching the Brawlers compete at this level. No question that Flathead wrestling is on the map. Fin Nadeau beat an All-American in the semifinals on the road to the championship.”
Flathead’s girls had four placers, including Lucille Libby (182) whose third place finish clinched the title for the Bravettes.
Hania Halverson was pinned in the 120 final to place second. Lily McMahon (126) was fourth and McKenna McCarthy (160) was sixth.
“The Flathead girls might have only had 4 girls place but Bella Arriga, Emma Gambino, and Boston Howell all won some matches and lost in the blood round,” Thompson said. “Hania Halverson made it into the finals at 120 with some super slick techniques this weekend. Lucy Libby got a pin for 3rd which won the tournament for our girls. Fantastic win for her and the team.”
