Katie Linda Miller Brodkin, 39

| January 8, 2022 12:00 AM

Beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend Katie Linda Miller Brodkin passed away recently in Seattle at the age of 39. Katie was born to Wayne and Karlyn Miller in Lethbridge, Alberta, and moved to Montana’s Flathead Valley with her family at age 3. Although she spent the last 10 years of her life in the city of Seattle, Katie was a country girl at heart who called Montana her home.

The best day of Katie’s life was the day she gave birth to her son, Ari, and she was never happier than when she was holding him in her arms, playing with him, and reading and singing him to sleep at night. He was her best and brightest accomplishment.

Katie authored countless poems, essays and children’s stories. She was a hopeless romantic who favored British literature and the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Katie delighted in and related to the awkwardness of Bridget in her favorite movie “Bridget Jones Diary.” She loved watching old romantic black and white movies while baking cookies with her mom and listening to Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers with her dad. She was a devoted fan of “The Golden Girls” and loved a nonfat mocha from Starbucks. Katie was an avid thrift store shopper and a wicked Scrabble player. She had an unforgettable sense of humor and a smile that lit up a room. Katie had a special place in her heart for people with special needs, especially Ari’s brother Caleb.

Katie is survived by her son, Ari, father Wayne Miller and stepmother Rhonda, mother Karlyn Gibbs and stepfather Gordon, brother Christopher, sisters Vanessa, Jennifer and Leah, and stepsiblings Chris, Cortney, Rachel and Aaron.

A celebration of Katie’s life will take place this summer.
