No. 28282 Service Date: January 11, 2022 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICE REGULATION BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF MONTANA IN THE MATTER OF NorthWestern Energy's Application for Approval of Beartooth Energy Storage Agreement REGULATORY DIVISION DOCKET NO. 2021.11.132 NOTICE OF APPLICATION AND INTERVENTION DEADLINE On December 21, 2021, NorthWestern Energy ("NorthWestern") filed with the Montana Public Service Commission ("Commission") its Application for Approval of Beartooth Energy Storage Agreement ("Application"). NorthWestern seeks an order from the Commission finding the energy storage agreement ("ESA") is in the public interest and allowing NorthWestern to track the ESA costs through the Power Costs and Credits Adjustment Mechanism. The ESA is a 20-year agreement, selected from a competitive solicitation process, that allows NorthWestern to purchase energy, capacity, and ancillary services produced from a 50-megawatt ("MW") battery energy storage facility that Beartooth Energy Storage, LLC will construct and own in Yellowstone County, Montana.
