Man arrested in Whitefish following overnight search
A wanted man was apprehended Wednesday morning after evading law enforcement overnight following a short pursuit through Whitefish.
According to information from the Whitefish Police Department, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to apprehend the suspect, identified as Christopher Glenn Lakey, 34, during a traffic stop on Half Moon Road at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lakey allegedly fled, setting off a pursuit toward Whitefish on Edgewood Place where officers set up spike strips.
Lakey was able to drive a short distance after the strips before leaving the vehicle on Wisconsin Avenue and fleeing on foot, the press release states.
Whitefish Police along with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Northwest Regional SWAT team and Two Bear Air conducted a search of the residential area east of Wisconsin Avenue overnight.
Lakey was located and arrested Wednesday morning after a Whitefish resident reported a “suspicious” person in the area. He was transported to the Flathead County Detention Center with charges pending.
Lakey has previous felony convictions of robbery, theft, burglary and criminal endangerment, according to court records.
In the 2019 criminal endangerment case he was convicted of pulling a gun on people fishing at the Old Steel Bridge in Evergreen and firing a shot.
