Helmer ‘Nels’ Sletvold, 67

Helmer ‘Nels’ Sletvold, 67, passed away Jan. 10, 2022.

Nels was born in Oaks, North Dakota, to Gladys and Helmer Sletvold Sr. Nels graduated from Kalispell High School and then joined the Navy. He then met his former spouse of 26 years, Betty, and they moved to Columbia Falls.

Nels worked at the Plum Creek sawmill for over 25 years and raised his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pranks on co-workers. Nels had a kind heart and was always there to help.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Perry.

Nels is survived by Betty, and his four children Chad, Ben, Chris and Bill; siblings, Linda, Fred, Bim, Dale, Juenell and Pam; and grandchildren, Troy, Avaya and Josh.

An ash spreading ceremony is planned this spring.
