Lakers AA split twinbill with Elks
The Lethbridge Elks AA beat the Kalispell Lakers AA 3-2 in a walkoff win Friday at Griffin Field in the second game of a Legion baseball twinbill.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh innings, Sam Hilgerson drew a walk and Aiden Wensmann scored the winning run for the Elks.
Kostya Hoffman scored the first run of the game for the Lakers on a wild pitch.
Lethbridge went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth from runs by Sebastian Sanchez Dias and David Stewart.
Hoffman’s single in the top of the sixth scored Jackson Nelson to even the score.
Elks pitcher Jaxon Filipenko went all seven innings, striking out five and allowing two runs on three hits.
Hoffman surrendered three runs on six hits and struck out six batters.
In the first game, the Lakers took the lead early and beat the Elks 8-6.
The Lakers started by scoring on a fielder's choice by Max Holden in the first inning, a single by Ostyn Brennan and a walk by Hoffman in the second inning.
In the top of the fifth, the Elks scored when Shaye McTavish doubled on a 1-2 count. The Lakers then scored on an error to make it 8-4. Lethbridge added two runs in the seventh but couldn’t complete a comeback.
Holden took the mound for the Lakers and struck out eight batters while allowing four runs on seven hits. Asher Baines threw one inning in relief.
