Bigfork Summer Playhouse shows ‘The Full Monty’
Bigfork Summer Playhouse opened its boisterous musical, “The Full Monty,”earlier this week and the show will be running throughout the Playhouse’s remaining summer season. This Americanized stage version of the 1997 British film showcases a book by Terrence McNally and a score by David Yazbek. It also garnered nine Tony Award nominations in 2000 including Best Musical.
“The Full Monty” follows six out-of-work men in Buffalo, New York, in desperate need of money in order to support them and their families. Eventually they stumble onto a get-rich-quick scheme of stripping and in the process work through their individual anxieties and fears of diminished self-worth. They come to discover that they are stronger as a unified group and have the confidence to overcome their individual demons.
“The main characters are so well-written and all go through significant arcs and come out as better people in the end,” first-time BSP director Joel Shura said. “It’s also just really, really funny. That being said, I would be remiss to mention the amazing work being done — and just wait ‘til you see the work these boys are putting into their stripping. They can hardly contain themselves!”
“The Full Monty” rotates nightly with “Guys & Dolls,” “Freaky Friday” and “Mamma Mia.” (See the complete summer schedule online at www.bigforksummerplayhouse.com)
