Port Polson Players play ball in ‘Home Games’
The Port Polson Players’ 47th summer season continues with the romantic baseball comedy, “Home Games.”
Working as a truck dispatcher, Mertle Mae Tucker supports herself, her dad, a canary and a blind cat.
Her dad (Tony Tucker) was once a Yankee, teaming with the likes of Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Casey Stengel, but spent the 1955 season on the bench. After the Yankees lost the ’55 World Series
(because, according to Tucker, ‘I wasn’t played’), Tony retired rather than being traded to Cleveland.
This funny and heart-warming story touts family devotion and love. Both the humor and tender affection when Mertle Mae’s love interest enters the picture, will leave audiences with smiles and a personal reflection on the Yankees.
“Home Games” plays July 7 through July 24 at Polson’s 1938 log Theatre on the Lake.
Curtain times are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
