Pioneer League: Mustangs down Range Riders 13-1
BILLINGS — The Billings Mustangs again brought the bats, hitting three home runs and downing the Glacier Range Riders 13-1 in Pioneer League baseball Thursday.
A day after Billings beat Glacier 8-0, Mustangs starting pitcher Yasnier Laureano held the Range Riders (5-3) hitless for six innings while his teammates piled up 13 runs. Laureano walked no one and struck out two.
Crews Taylor, Gabe Wurtz and Brian Parreira all hit home runs for the Mustangs (4-3). Taylor hit a two-run home run that made it 8-0 in the third. Parreira hit a grand slam in the fourth. In the sixth Wurtz hit his fifth homer, a solo shot, tying him with Glacier’s Gabe Howell for the league lead.
It was Wurtz that gave Billings the lead for good in the first inning with a two-run double off Glacier starter Andrew Tri.
Glacier used three pitchers and Steven DePalma was the most effective, holding Billings scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings.
Dean Miller broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out double off reliever Augie Martinez in the seventh.
Glacier scored its lone run in the ninth: Tyler Ryan walked with one out, moved to third on Brandon Trammell’s single and scored on a wild pitch.
