Mariners 3rd, Loggers 5th at Big Bucks Tournament

LIBBY — Aydan Williamson hit a two-run double, then a three-run double, and the Libby Loggers completed its run through the Big Bucks Legion tournament with a 15-7 win over the Northern Lake Mountaineers Sunday.

Libby (7-18) went 3-1 at its own tournament at the Lumberyard, including an 11-1 win over the Mountaineers out of Post Falls, Idaho, on Saturday. Caden Williams hit for the cycle in that victory.

Sunday’s game was the fifth-sixth place game.

The Cardinals of Claremont, Calif., beat the Bitterroot Bucs 6-3 in eight innings for the title; Mission Valley beat Latah, Idaho 7-1 for third.

In Saturday’s win Williamson scored three runs, one coming on a wild pitch in the second inning to put his team ahead for good, 6-5.

Caden Williams had one hit — a two-run single in the third that made it 8-5 — but also drew three walks and scored five times for the Loggers. Cy Williams had two hits and two RBIs; Tripp Zhang had three hits, including an RBI double, and scored three runs.

Xavier Fisher threw a five-hitter and drove in the go-ahead run with a third-inning single, and Mission Valley pulled away from Latah, Idaho to nail down third place.

Brock Henriksen tripled and scored on Fisher’s single, then added a two-run single an inning later for the Mariners (29-11). Ethan McCauley doubled in a run in the fourth and added an RBI triple in the fifth. Wyatt Wadsworth added a double and Brock Henriksen hit a triple. Wadswroth and McCauley scored two runs each.

On the bump Fisher allowed one unearned run and no walks, and struck out seven. The Mariners went 3-1 at the tournament, splitting two Saturday games with eventual champion Claremont, Calif.

Caden Williams had a game: An RBI single in the first inning; a two-run homer in the second; a triple in the fourth and an RBI double in the fifth and final inning.

Landon Haddock added a two-run homer in the fourth inning and an RBI double in the fifth. Ayden Williams backed his own cause on the mound with a double and three RBIs. On the bump he scattered five hits and walked none. He struck out six.

Ethan McCauley broke a 4-4 tie with a third-inning steal of home, Alex Muzquiz hit a solo homer in the fourth and McCauley singled in an insurance run in the sixth for the Mariners.

Pitcher Landon Shoemake came on in the second inning and, after giving up a run to knot the game at 4-4, threw another three scoreless frames. He allowed four walks and three hits, and fanned two. He helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly.

Dawson DuMont had a two-run triple in the second and an RBI single in the first.

Adam Aguirre stymied the Mariners on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out 11.

The tandem of Alex Muzquiz and Cymian Kauley allowed just four hits — Muzquiz allowed three of them and fanned five in six innings, with two walks — but the Cardinals got an unearned run in the first and it turned out to be the game-winner.

Espn Fisher doubled. Dylan Davis and Wyatt Wadsworth had the other hits.

Dawson DuMont hit a grand slam in the second inning and a two-run home run in the seventh, leading the Mariners past the Post Falls entrant.

DuMont’s first homer capped a six-run rally that reversed a 3-0 Northern Lake lead.

Alex Muzquiz hit an RBI single to cap the Mariners’ three-run rally in the third inning and another one ahead of DuMont’s second homer.

DuMont added a double and scored three runs; Wyatt Wadsworth went 4-for-4 with a double and scored twice.

Dylan Davis scattered seven hits and three walks in 4 1-3 innings to earn the win. He fanned six.

Caden Williams held the Latah Generals to three hits and one run through five innings, and the Loggers withstood a sixth-inning rally before the game ended under the time limit.

Williams fanned 10 in his five innings. He had one walk. The run he gave up was unearned.

In the sixth Latah strung together three hits with a walk and a Libby error, before Aiden Rose retired the final two batters.

Chase Rayome’s RBI single capped a three-run third inning that put the Loggers up 5-1. Rusty Gillespie had an RBI single in the frame as well, and the Generals helped the rally with a fielding error.

Libby couldn’t take full advantage of eight Claremont walks; the Cardinals cashed in seven Logger errors for four unearned runs.

Ayden Williamson and Landock Haddock drove in Libby’s runs with fifth-inning singles.

Four Claremont pitchers combined on the win. Libby made inroads against relievers Max Suckley and Brandon Garcia, before Adam Aguirre came in and fanned all six Loggers he faced.

Every Mission Valley player got a hit, with Dawson DuMont hitting a three-run homer in the second inning and Wyatt Wadsworth clouting a two-run shot in the fourth.

The game ended after 4 ½ innings under the mercy rule.

DuMont also had an RBI single; Alex Muzquiz and Dylan Davis hit two-run doubles.

Espn Fisher went the distance on the hill, scattering nine hits and a walk. He fanned two.
