Twins sweep Loggers, fall to Claremont

LIBBY — Stevyn Andrachick hit two doubles in the first game and tripled and scored three times in the second as the Glacier Twins swept a Legion doubleheader from Libby Tuesday.

The Twins won the opener 8-3, getting a combined two-hitter by Kellen Kroger and Hayden Meehan. They rolled 19-1 in the second game, which ended after five innings.

Glacier (21-6) fell to Claremont, Calif., 1-0 on Wednesday.

Andrachick hit a two-run double in the second inning of Tuesday’s first game to give the Twins the lead for good, and added an RBI double during their five-run fifth.

Kroger went 5 1-3 innings, allowing both hits, three walks and two earned runs. He struck out three. Meehan retired all five men he faced, fanning one.

For Libby (7-20), Tripp Zhang hit an RBI single in the third inning and a solo homer in the sixth.

In the nightcap Glacier scored in every inning, with Andrachick hitting a triple to start the game and scoring on a wild pitch.

Mason Peters went 2-for-2, was hit by a pitch, walked twice and scored four runs; Jack McIntyre and Mikey Glass had three RBIs each.

The Twins took advantage of 11 Libby errors and eight walks by Logger pitchers. Talon Murphy got the win for Glacier, allowing two hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out six.

An RBI single by Adrian Sanchez in the seventh inning — scoring Izaiha Camacho, who’d doubled — was the difference for the Claremont Cardinals.

Glacier managed just four hits against three Claremont pitchers, while Mikey Glass went the distance in a standout outing for the Twins. Glass allowed four hits and three walks, and struck out five.

Mason Peters had two of the Twins’ hits, and reached second three times, but couldn’t get home. Glacier went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Twins play at the Keith Sell Tournament beginning Friday in Helena, and host the Sapa-Johnsrud tournament July 7-10.
