Laura Wold Monson

| March 2, 2022 12:00 AM

Laura Wold Monson passed away peacefully Feb. 17, 2022, from complications from Alzheimer's, surrounded by family.

She was a longtime resident of Whitefish and taught Sunday school in the Lutheran church there. She loved working at Frenchy's Chinese Gardens where she made many lifetime friends.

She relocated her family to Spokane where she attended Kinman Business School. After several years she relocated to Whitefish where she worked for Walsh Groves, working as a secretary during the building of the Trego tunnel. Oh, what an adventure.

She was a person who always looked to her surroundings to find new adventures, (clam digging) new sources of information ( Lewis and Clark Trail), new things to learn (How a salmon counter worked). She passed this quest for knowledge on to her children, always encouraging them to learn.

In 1970 she married Keith Monson and relocated to Washington state. Eventually they landed in The Dalles, Oregon, where she lived for 32 years. She worked for The Dalles School District. She was active in Habitat for Humanity for many years, working in many capacities — board member, hammering nails, raising money, and welcoming new families to their new home. After retirement she traveled extensively, attending weddings, graduations, and the birth of grandchildren. Some trips involved Habitat for Humanity. Some were just for fun.

In 2014 she moved back to Kalispell to live out the rest of her days in this beautiful valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Macomber, Leona Thompson West, brother Tommy Macomber and his wife Joann, sister Viola Loveall and her husband Wes Loveall, daughter-in-law Cathy Wold, brother-in-law John Selner, and several nephews.

She is survived by eight children, Marie Wold Allen (Tom), Linda Becker (Phil), Dianna Bennett (companion Dean House) David Wold, Mike Wold (Shelly) Leeann Tarter (Rod), Chuck Monson (Nell) and Kaycee Williams (Noah). She had 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by sister Leora Muraoka, brother Archie Macomber, and sisters Maxine Selner, Ruby Imholt and Peggy Knudsen. She is survived also by many nieces and nephews.

She was so loved and will be missed by all.
