Glacier girls bow out with loss to Sentinel

HELENA — The Missoula Sentinel Spartans ruled the boards and shot a ton of free throws Friday, and yet the Glacier girls were right there.

A couple game-tying 3-point attempts in the final 10 seconds fell away, and Sentinel escaped Friday’s loser-out game with a 36-33 win over the Wolfpack.

Sentinel (9-11) stays in the hunt for a State AA berth; Glacier ended up 5-15.

The Wolfpack was outrebounded 57-36 and Sentinel marched to the line 33 times compared to Glacier’s nine.

The Spartans also missed 18 of those free throws. After Sidney Gulick’s 3-pointer with 42 seconds closed the gap to 35-33, Sentinel missed three freebies and committed two turnovers to give Glacier repeated chances.

“Sidney hit a clutch shot,” Glacier coach Amanda Cram said. “Unfortunately we couldn’t close the gap

“I thought we battled them in that respect (rebounding). In the end that wasn’t enough. We’ve fought our lack of size and experience all season, and today was no exception, but I’m still proud of the fight that we gave them.”

Freshman Reese Ramey scored a game-high 10 points and Gulick added nine, to go with 10 rebounds. Emily McElmurry and Brooke Stayner scored nine each for Sentinel.

Laura Rosenleaf’s 11 points and 12 rebounds led the Bulldogs (10-10), and teammate Kodie Hoagland hit three of the Bulldogs’ six 3-pointers.

Averi Batt led Big Sky (6-14) with nine points and eight boards.
