A Flathead Valley man is accused of nearly hitting a house in Kalispell while driving high on fentanyl-laced drugs.

Matthew James Decarlo, 29, was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center on March 1, charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal endangerment, along with a probation violation. His bail was set at $100,000.

According to charging documents, on March 1 at 7:30 a.m., Kalispell police were called to a home on Teal Drive where a vehicle had nearly collided with a home.

When police arrived they found Decarlo unresponsive in his vehicle. Officers determined he was overdosing, gave him Narcan, and he regained consciousness.

Witnesses told officers that Decarlo was driving erratically through the neighborhood hanging out of the vehicle until the vehicle careened into a yard on Teal Drive. Children were on the sidewalk waiting for the school bus as Decarlo sped through the area.

Officers allegedly found a blue pill in Decarlo’s vehicle believed to be “mexi-blue” which is a fentanyl-laced drug. The pill was sent to the state crime lab for testing.

Decarlo was transported to Logan Health Medical Center, but documents state that he left the hospital later that day against medical advice.

According to documents, Decarlo called his probation officer and admitted to using meth the previous night, then taking some pills that morning.

Decarlo’s arraignment is scheduled for March 31 in front of Judge Robert Allison.

Decarlo pleaded guilty to felony burglary charges last year after he broke into a former roommate’s home and stole three marijuana plants. He was given a deferred sentence in that case.
