KALICO launches new Visiting Artist Series

| March 10, 2022 12:00 AM

A new Visiting Artist Series at KALICO Art Center brings internationally renowned artist Mary Mattingly to Kalispell.

The first Artist Talk in the Visiting Artist Series will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Montana Modern Fine Art.

Slated to be a quarterly event, in this series KALICO brings artists from outside the Flathead Valley to share and discuss their work, creating poignant discussions about the pressing subjects of the times and uniting critical thinking with community action.

Mattingly is the first of many artists to be a part of this event. Local curator Jenny Bevill and Mattingly will discuss Mattingly’s Limnal Lacrimosa installation and how it relates to the issues of water in some of her other public art projects in New York City, Oregon and Ecuador. From building sculptural ecosystems to engaging with issues like water privatization, these projects spark dialogue around place-based systems and cycles. Audience participation is encouraged.

Limnal Lacrimosa is open Sunday and Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. by appointment. Schedule a visit at www.limnal-lacrimosa.com, then bring your questions to the discussion.

The Limnal Lacrimosa installation will remain on view through the month of March.

KALICO Art Center is a nonprofit downtown space for all ages and abilities to create, connect and experience contemporary art by offering dynamic classes, events, exhibitions and a ceramics studio.
