AA girls: Bravettes eliminate Butte

Daily Inter Lake

BILLINGS — The Flathead Bravettes got back on the winning track in a big way Friday, beating Butte 60-33 at the State AA girls basketball tournament behind big games from Maddy Moy and Clare Converse.

The Bravettes (17-6) advanced to another loser-out game at 9 a.m. Saturday, against Billings West. The Golden Bears lost to Missoula Hellgate 51-35 in the semifinals. The game will be played at Billings Skyview.

Hellgate will take on Skyview, a 63-46 winner over Billings Skyview, for the title at 6:30 p.m. at First Interstate Arena.

Flathead 60, Butte 33

A big second quarter got the Bravettes out to a 32-19 lead, and another burst in the fourth quarter put the game away. Moy had two baskets — giving her 20 points, tying her career-high — to make it 54-29. Clare Converse’s breakaway layup made it 59-29 with 1:53 left and Flathead coach Sam Tudor cleared his bench.

“They played really well,” Tudor said. “In particular Clare came alive today. She had 14 points, she was rebounding, doing everything.

“I thought our defense was outstanding. And you know — we knew we were playing for another day together, and they put it all on the line. I’m proud of them.”

Converse scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, was credited with four assists and had three steals. Moy was 9-for-13 from the floor and had three steals; she and Avery Chouinard each hit two 3-pointers as Flathead reached 60 points for the first time this season..

“We hit a 60-burger,” Tudor said. “We kind of had a lull in the third, and then Maddy hit a 3-pointer and that kind of woke us up. It was a bank shot, but it still counts.

“But it was good team basketball this morning. They played great as a team.”

Kennedy Moore added eight points and seven boards and blocked three shots.

Kodie Hoagland buried three 3-pointers and scored 13 points to lead the Bulldogs, who ended up 11-13.
