Victim shot in back during Kalispell confrontation
A Columbia Falls man allegedly shot another man in the back during a confrontation at the victim’s Kalispell home last weekend, new court documents reveal.
Zackary Matthew Maas, 25, is charged with felony assault with a weapon. He is being held in the Flathead County Detention Center with bail set at $100,000.
According to charging documents filed in Flathead County District Court on Thursday, Kalispell police officers were called March 13 at about 4:30 a.m., to a report of a shooting on the 700 block of First Avenue West in Kalispell.
Upon arrival, officers found Gabriel Wagoner, 41, lying face down at the top of a stairwell in his home with an apparent gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to Logan Health Medical Center for treatment.
Documents state that Wagoner told officers Maas and another man entered his home and confronted him. Wagoner said Maas shot him in the back when he opened the door for the two men to exit his home.
Maas fled the scene following the alleged shooting, but was located and arrested the next day at a parking lot in South Kalispell.
He allegedly admitted to the crime during an interview with detectives, documents state.
If convicted, Maas faces up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Maas has an arraignment in front of Judge Robert Allison set for March 31 at 9 a.m.
