Dawgs sweep Cats in dual
COLUMBIA FALLS — In the schools’ second dual this spring, Whitefish earned the sweep over Columbia Falls at the Mike Nicosia Cat-Dog on Tuesday.
The Bulldog boys won 84-63, and the girls 72-69.
Morgan Kyle helped Whitefish quite a bit with that score with his three wins on the day, all in jumping events. Kyle set a personal record with his 20 foot, 5 inch leap in the long jump, and did that two more times by PRing in high jump (5-6), and triple jump (39-8.5).
Gabe Menicke won the 200 meter dash and was second in long jump with a jump of 20 feet.
Also for Whitefish, Talon Holmquist was a double winner in shot put and discus. His discus throw of 148-0 is a personal best and second in Class A.
Columbia Falls’ Jace Duval sprinted to first in the 100 and was third in long jump. Brock Fisher was second to Holmquist in shot put and set a new personal best discus throw (130-4), where he also placed second.
Wildcat junior Finley Sundberg PRed in the 100, where he was second, and also was second in the 400.
Columbia Falls won the short relay, and Whitefish’s ‘A’ team took the long relay.
Erin Wilde was a double winner for the Whitefish girls, earning victories in long jump and high jump. Her 5-6 high jump is a personal best.
Whitefish sprinter Brooke Zetooney can also throw pretty well, too. She won the 100 and went on to throw 30-1 in shot put for second place to teammate Drew Steele.
Also for Whitefish, Hailey Ells won the 100 hurdles and was second in long jump
Columbia Falls’ Hannah Sempf set a personal best pole vault – 10-6 – and then placed third in long jump with distance that qualified her for state (16-4.25).
Siri Erickson won the 800, Julia Martin won the 3,200, and Alexis Green won triple jump for the Wildkats.
The Columbia Falls ‘A’ team was victorious in the long relay, and Whitefish won the short relay.
Next up for both teams is the 43rd Archie Roe Invitational on Saturday in Kalispell.
