Whitefish girls win Polson ABC title

POLSON — The Lady Bulldogs dominated the sprints and relays to win the team title at the Nelson-Thomas ABC Meet Saturday.

Whitefish scored 121 points, Corvallis was next at 108, and Columbia Falls had 92.

Sprinter Brooke Zetooney ran 12.99 to win the 100-meter dash for Whitefish, and was second to teammate Hailey Ells in the 200. Ells ran 26.35, a new personal record and best in Class A.

Ells also won the 300 hurdles, and teammate Maeve Ingelfinger came in second with a new PR, 48.42. Inglefinger was also second in the 100 hurdles.

In the 800, Isabelle Cooke of Whitefish ran a season-record 2:27.34, and Rachael Wilmot also PR’ed in the 400, which she won.

Erin Wilde won the long jump with a new personal best, 17 feet, 8.5 inches (which is also the best in Class A) and was part of Whitefish’s winning short relay team, of which Zetooney ran the anchor leg.

Whitefish’s long relay team zipped to first place and set a new season record time (4:06.63), with Zetooney and Ells as the third and anchor legs.

Columbia Falls’ Ally Sempf was third in the 100, fourth in the 200 and finished third in the long jump behind older sister Hannah, who was second. Both ran the Wildkats’ long relay, which placed third.

Hannah Sempf won the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Her personal best is 11-0, which she set May 7 at the Archie Roe Invitational.

Also for the Wildkats, Siri Erickson won the 1,600 distance and Courtney Hoerner was second in the 3,200 with a new personal best time – 12:34.40.

Libby’s Rylee Boltz cleared 5 feet to win the high jump and was second in the 400.

Hamilton scored 124 points to win the boys team title with Frenchtown next at 90 points, and Corvallis with 81. Columbia Falls was fourth with 58 points, and Whitefish fifth with 56.

Columbia Falls’ Jace Duval showed well in the sprints, placing second in the 100 and winning the 200 with a new personal best, 22.89, which is also fourth-best in Class A. Duval also won the long jump and was fourth in the triple jump.

Whitefish’s Bodie Smith won the 110 hurdles, and thrower Talon Holmquist uncorked a 53-4 to win the shot put.

Holmquist threw 136-2 in the discus, well off his personal best 148-0, but even that wouldn’t have been enough to beat Hamilton’s Andrew Burrow, with a massive 163-5 throw that is his personal best and second in Class A to Dillon thrower Callahan Hoffman’s state-best 173-1. Burrow was second to Holmquist in shot put.

Payton Cates of Ronan won in triple jump and high jump, and Browning’s Jeremy Bockus won the 800.
