Vikings’ Wade runner-up at State B golf

ANACONDA — Bigfork’s Colin Wade fired a 77 to surge to a three-way tie for second place on Tuesday at the State B golf tournament, held at Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Club.

Wade finished two strokes off the medalist, Sunday Ross of Red Lodge, who carded a total of 156.

Glasgow’s Riley Smith and Eureka’s Erik Casazza were the others tied with Wade for second place.

The Boulder boys scored 677, unseating last year’s winner Columbus, who ended up second with 689. Anaconda was next with 693, and Choteau had 713.

The Columbus girls repeated as state champions, carding 760 over the two-day tournament. Three Forks was a somewhat distant second with 806, and Shelby was next with 822. Bigfork’s girls were sixth with 865.

Keni Wade ended up sixth after shooting 94 Tuesday and ended with 180 strokes.

Boulder’s Celi Chapman was the girls’ medalist after shooting 81 both days to end with 162. Emma Woods of Fairfield was second at 167, and Columbus’ Aubre Mitchum was next at 169.

Shooting the lowest girls’ round of the day was Thompson Falls’ Ellie Baxter, who carded a 79. Baxter finished fifth with a 174 total.
