Northwest Ballet Co. partners with Whitefish branch and NW Ballet School for spring performances

| May 19, 2022 12:00 AM

The Northwest Ballet Company is back live on stage for its 42nd annual spring production, "Spring Fling." The last time the company appeared on stage before a live audience for a spring show was "Sleeping Beauty" in 2019. It was shut down for 2020s "Midsummer Night's Dream" and 2021 brought a virtual production of "Alors en Danse."

This year's performance features each company member in a classical ballet solo, and the whole company together dancing the Tea Party Scene from "Alice in Wonderland," sure to delight audiences of all ages.

New this year, the company is collaborating with the Northwest Ballet School for a weekend of performances, and all shows will be at Glacier High School's Performing Arts Hall in Kalispell. On Saturday, May 21, the Whitefish branch of the Northwest Ballet School’s 20th annual Student Showcase Recital will begin at noon, followed by the Northwest Ballet Company's 42nd annual spring production at 3:30 p.m., and the Kalispell's Northwest Ballet School at the Dance Art Center's 45th annual Student Showcase Recital at 7 p.m.

Regarding the company's spring production, Northwest Ballet Company soloist and Flathead High School junior Joelle Folkman of Bigfork said, "Being a part of the Northwest Ballet's traditions has always been something that I have loved, and will be something that I will carry with me throughout my life. From my first spring recital as a 3-year-old to this year's company show, I have never had better opportunities for growth and learning … whether it's a corps/group dance, duet or solo. This year, our Company's showcase will be an extra memorable experience. A couple months ago, Ms. Marisa gave us Company members the opportunity to suggest a ballet variation we would like to perform the most, which was a wonderful surprise … Despite the struggles of the past few years, dance has always been there as a distraction from the world and I know it always will be, no matter what the world throws at us!"

Tickets for the Northwest Ballet Company’s Spring Fling show are available at the door one hour prior to the performance and are $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. The performance beginis at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Glacier High School Performing Arts Hall, 375 Wolfpack Way, Kalispell.
