FRENCHTOWN — The Vikings and Valkyries lead the standings after the first day of the Western B/C Divisional track meet Friday at Frenchtown High School.

With 94 points, the Valkyries have a big lead on second-place Eureka, which has 37 points. Anaconda is next at 30.

The Vikings have 77 points through eight events, Loyola is next with 43 points and Eureka is third at 29.

Bigfork’s Chloe Raats won the 400-meter dash and was the third leg on the Valkyries’ winning short relay.

Inga Turner led a 1-2-3 Valkyrie finish in the long jump. Turner’s winning jump was 16 feet, 2.25 inches, and Emma Pouwers and Hannah Ayers rounded out the top 3. Ayers was also second in the 800.

Scout Nadeau threw a personal best 38-6.50 in the shot put, and Madison Chappius was fourth. Another Bigfork thrower, Zoey Albert, set a new personal best distance in the javelin, 116-1, and won the event. Chappius also threw a PR, 114-2, for second place.

Eureka’s Maya Carvey was second in the 400, and teammate Jadyn Pluid third in the javelin.

There were plenty of personal bests on the Vikings’ side too. Jack Jensen had two — one in the 800, which he won and another in the 3,200, where he was second to Florence’s Nathaniel Gale. Gale’s 10:05.14 is second-best in Class B.

George Bucklin won the long jump, and Levi Taylor topped the field in the shot put with a PR throw of 48-7, which set up a 1-2-3 Bigfork finish in the event. Braeden Guse and Silvestre Rodriguez were second and third respectively.

Eureka’s Caleb Utter cleared 12-6 to win the pole vault and Joseph Kindel threw a season-best 162-7 for second in javelin.

The remaining 10 events will be completed today. Field events start at 10 a.m. and running events will begin at noon.
