Kersten wins divisional girls crown
GREAT FALLS — Flathead’s Alexis Kersten secured a divisional title and trip to state with her victory in the girls’ singles championship at the Northern AA divisional tournament on Saturday.
Kersten defeated C.M. Russell’s Ruby Jennings in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.
Glacier’s Haven Speer and Sarah Downs topped CMR duo Hannah Bingham and Becca Sherman 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 for the girls doubles title.
CMR’s Carter Corn and Josh Stimac defeated Alex Galloway and Timmy Glanville of Glacier in the boys doubles final. Trey Engellant and Ethan Woods, also from Glacier, ended up fourth to Noah Stimac and Brady Pike, another CMR duo.
In boys singles, Glacier’s Harrison Sanders ended up second after a loss to CMR’s Luca Alvisi in the final. The Wolfpack’s Will Rudbach fell in the third place game, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, to CMR’s Carson Rich.
Glacier previously won 10 consecutive divisional titles, but with team scores tallied late Saturday, CMR edged the Pack for the boys title, 53-46. The CMR girls also won with 52 points. Glacier was second with 28 and Flathead next at 22.
The Class AA tennis tournament is May 26-27 in Missoula. The top four teams and players earn a spot at the tournament.
