State AA tennis: Wolfpack's Sanders third, Speer and Downs fifth
MISSOULA — Glacier’s Haven Speer and Sarah Downs ended up fifth, Harrison Sanders was third, and the Bozeman girls ran away with the team crown Friday at the State AA tennis tournament.
Bozeman scored 43 points for its 10th title and was a comfortable distance from runner-up C.M. Russell, which scored 20. In third was Billings Skyview (16), and Missoula Hellgate (15) was next.
CMR and Bozeman boys ended up co-champions, both with 27 points. Helena Capital and Gallatin were next. The Wolfpack boys were sixth.
Sanders scored some points for Glacier by placing third in boys singles, and Will Rudbach ended up fifth.
Speer and Downs fell to the consolation bracket after a semifinal loss Friday morning, but rallied to a fifth-place finish.
Bozeman’s Hailey Buss and Nora Schrank won the girls doubles title and teammate Meg McCarty capped an undefeated season with a singles championship.
Flathead’s Alexis Kersten got off to a promising start Thursday and won one match in consolation before bowing out on Friday.
Undefeated Ryan Ashley of Helena Capital was the boys singles winner, and Gallatin duo Jake Farne and Ayden Schonhoff were doubles champs.
