Vikings, Valkyries third at State B

GREAT FALLS — George Bucklin cleared a career best in the high jump and helped the Vikings to third overall at the State B-C track and field meet on Saturday.

Bucklin’s winning jump was 6 feet, 7 inches and he dueled it out with Shelby’s Rhett Reynolds, who topped out at 6-6.

Boulder won the boys team title with 92 points and Bigfork was three points back of second place Loyola, with 69.

The Vikings also got a fifth in the 100 from sprinter Joseph Farrier, a 4-6 finish in the 110 hurdles from Isak Epperly and Wyatt Johnson and a third in shot put from Levi Taylor, who threw a personal best 52-5.25. Bigfork’s short relay was fourth.

The Valkyries ended up third too, surging up the standings from 12th place, where they sat after the first day.

Zoey Albert took second in the javelin with a personal best throw of 119-05, Inga Turner was third in the 100 hurdles with a personal best 15.89 and fourth in the high jump, Lily Tanko was sixth in 300 hurdles, and Scout Nadeau third in the shot put. The Valkyries won both relays.

Eureka’s Maya Carvey had PR’s in the 100 and 200, where she was fifth and third, respectively. Remmi Stanger cleared 5-0 for third in the high jump. The Eureka boys long relay was sixth.
