Agnes Elizabeth Merritt Kenney Hames, 97

| November 2, 2022 12:00 AM

On Oct. 30, 2022, Agnes left her earthly home to join that great “cloud of witnesses” in glory.

Agnes was born on March 31, 1925, in Griffin, Georgia. She was the youngest of seven siblings. She graduated as valedictorian of the 1942 Griffin High School class. Soon after graduation, she departed for a job in Washington, D.C., working for the war department. In October 1942, she married Richard H. Kenney with whom she had her two sons, Charles and William. After World War II she moved to Atlanta where she dedicated her life to raising her two sons.

Agnes was a lifetime member of the Baptist church, and she always said that Sunday was her favorite day of the week.

In 1971, she married Joseph Hames. They enjoyed several very happy and loving years together.

In 1998, she made the very adventurous move to Proctor, Montana, to be close to her son Charles and his family. She enjoyed many happy years with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her “MaMa.” She was a faithful member of Meadowbrook Christian Fellowship.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, all siblings, son William Kenney, and grandson Jason Matthew Kenney.

She is survived by her son Charles Kenney (Carroll) of Proctor, granddaughter Pamela Applebee (Jim) of Bozeman, grandsons Keith Kenney (Sue) of Atlanta, Paul Kenney (Karen) of Atlanta David Kenney (Sarah) of Billings, Mark Kenney (Angie) of Proctor, and John Kenney (Bobbie) of Canton, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Codi Dunn (Joe), Jase Applebee, CJ Kenney, Keith Applebee, Ellie Kenney, Gracie Kenney, Jason Kenney, Grant Kenney, Kit Kenney, Ariel Kenney, Bridger Kenney, Jasmine Kenney, David Kenney, Isabella Kenney, Courtney Kenney, Cara Kenney and Catherine Kenney.

We will never forget her lovely smile and her love for Jesus.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. at The Lake Funeral Home in Polson. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery and then a reception will follow at Meadowbrook Christian Fellowship in Proctor.
