Mary ‘Marian’ Dunne Kinney, 88
Our beloved mom, Marian Kinney, joined our father Daniel Kinney in heaven on Oct. 22, 2022.
She was born to Charles and Alice Dunne in Butte on June 18, 1934. She joined brothers Joe Lowney and John “Jack” Dunne, and sister Alice Jean (Kingsbury). On Mom’s 6th birthday little brother Charles “Chuck” was born. They lived in Butte and Anaconda. She worked as a butcher, and at the prison in Deer Lodge, along with her father.
She met Dan Kinney in Deer Lodge and they wed June 19, 1954. They lived in many places, as Dad was a railroader. They had five children, Dan Jr. Debra, Teresa, Sharon and Steven.
They moved the family out of a trailer into the home of their dreams at the base of Mount Jumbo in Missoula the summer of 1968. Mom was very involved in our grade school years. She was a Den mother, Girl Scout leader and PTA member. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, having a very large garden and raspberry patch. She canned everything she could for a large family. And she was quite popular for her raspberry liquor.
We always had the biggest Christmas trees. Christmas was very special for us kids.
She and Dad played cribbage for as long as we can remember, keeping “score” for years.
She was an avid bowler, enjoying that time with good friends.
In 1995, when she was 60, Dad passed away. One of her last grandkids, Charlie, was born five months later and helped fill a void.
She moved to Kalispell where Debbie and Sharon lived in 2007. She beat cancer in 2008. She loved to go rummage saleing and out to lunch. She and Debbie took several Mother’s Day trips along the Western coast.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel, and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Daniel, Debbie Llewellyn (Bill), Teresa Simmons (Dave), Sharon Hagel (Mike) and Steven (Tracy); grandchildren, Morgan Kinney (Kathryn), Miles Kinney, Alaina Dunne (Heath), Matthew Gilberston (Caroline), Justin Gilbertson (Jordan), Breanna Scott (Dwight), Layaka Mann (Bill), Arlista Ramos (Jay), Micajah Jenkins (Shane), Ezra Llewellyn, Rachel Brown (Justin), Hannah and Emily Simmons, Charlie Hagel (Melissa), Erin Hagel, Joshua and Chelsea Kinney; and great-grandkids, Juniper Chelsea, Robbie, Domnik, Braden, Austin, Danya, Gharrett, Benjamin, Oscar, Cynthia, Hazel, Emree, Kinsley, Jace, Soren, Rory and Casper.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary’s name to Enhabit Hospice, or Flathead County Animal Shelter.
