| October 30, 2022 12:00 AM

Susan Garrow Johnson, 71, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at Logan Health Medical Center following a year-long battle with cancer.

Susan was born on Feb. 10, 1951, in Browning. She attended school in Browning and graduated from Browning High School in 1969. She started work for the U.S. Forest Service, Spotted Bear Ranger District, in 1979 as a clerk typist. She worked numerous administrative positions, including assisting wilderness outfitter and guides with their annual permits and eventually became the district’s recreation technician. While working at Spotted Bear she affectionately became known as “Susie Ranger.”

Upon her retirement in 2010, she continued part time work for the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, keeping her connection to wilderness.

Susan always had a smile and friendly gesture for everyone she met. She enjoyed rooting for her favorite college football team, the Montana State Bobcats. But her real passion lay with her beloved San Francisco 49ers. There was always a rousing party or get together when the “49ers” were playing.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Johnson; her parents, Bob and Marion Garrow; and her two brothers, Shawn and Steve.

She is survived by her nephew, Casey Garrow and his wife Jessica, her niece, Lindsay Garrow, numerous great-nieces, and many close friends.

A celebration of life is being planned for next summer at the family cabin in St. Mary, Montana.
