First Friday event showcases Therese LaChance Ely
Phillips Studio & Gallery is celebrating the season with “Turn of the Seasons” exhibition of works by award winning artist, Therese LaChance Ely. This exhibition of works will feature all four seasons of the Montana landscape. These works are done in traditional oil paint, drawing on the beauty of the local landscape to create plein-air and studio pieces. Ely’s paintings are a naturalistic representation of the landscape in the realism style. Ely will be giving an informal artist talk during the First Friday reception, Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
Ely and her husband enjoy hiking and camping all over Montana. She is especially inspired to paint the beauty of Glacier National Park. The farther from the car and farther up the trail into bear country to find those lesser-known spots truly excites Ely to paint. Her husband is the Council Commissioner for the Montana Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. This gives her the opportunity to find inspiration visiting remote portions of the state. Her largest painting, capturing a clearing storm from Montana’s Moccasin Mountains, is on permanent loan to the Boy Scouts of America and hangs over the fireplace in their flagship lodge in Lewistown.
Ely is a member of the Hockaday Museum of Art and participates in its annual Glacier Plein Air Paint-out and Salon Shows. She received the top award in the Hockaday Member’s Salon exhibit in 2020.
Meet the artist during the First Friday opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 2. Phillips Studio & Gallery is located in the Kalispell Center Mall between JCPenney and the Red Lion Hotel. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This exhibition will be on view through Oct. 1.
