MISSOULA — A tough, physical battle between the Flathead Bravettes and Missoula Sentinel Spartans ended in a 0-0 tie Saturday in Western AA soccer.

The Bravettes (1-4-1) defeated Butte 5-0 on Friday, with Fiona Coulter scoring two goals and Mia Stephan, Brinly Youso and Ali Putzer also adding goals. Flathead goalkeeper Joy Sund got the shutout against the Bulldogs.

Sentinel edged the Flathead boys 2-1 on Saturday. Mason Moulter scored in the 40th minute to cut Sentinel’s lead to 2-1, but the Spartans held on to win.

“Sentinel was a very physical team, but we kept it close, proud of the progress we are making,” coach Alejandro Calderon said.

On Friday, the Braves (2-3-1) tied the Butte Bulldogs 1-1 after a late goal. Matthew Sanchez scored for Flathead.

“The boys played a very controlled game with lots of possessions and opportunities,” Calderon said. “We were up the whole game until the last 5 minutes where they stuck one in.”

Full scoring information for the boys games was not available.
