County rural improvement districts see reduction in taxes
Property owners in two of Flathead County’s Rural Special Improvement Districts are set to see a reduction in the amount they pay for the districts.
The two districts affected are the Monegan Road and the Bigfork Stormwater Project districts. Over the past year, a parcel within each of the existing districts has been split creating additional units within the existing district. The change requires the county to factor in these additional units and then recalculate the unbilled principal amounts for the districts based on the change.
Essentially, spreading out the amount owed over more units.
For the Monegan Road district, this resulted in a reduction of $48.12 per unit.
For the Bigfork stormwater district, this resulted in a reduction of $4.68 per unit.
County commissioners will hold public hearings on the changes on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 10:15 a.m. in the commissioners’ chambers on the third floor of the Flathead County Courthouse, 800 South Main Street, Kalispell.
The county is required to send out a notification to all property owners within the district anytime a recalculation of the assessment is made.
